Friday, August 22, 1862, Nassau — For Joanna Stuart Davis, the Civil War has been a commercial Godsend. From Richmond to Nassau, her personal empire is swelling, as trade through the Union blockade expands and profits scale ever-higher. But with more wealth comes more challenge. And more enemies — social, political and mercantile.
